Where the World Is Already Live-Streaming Vote Counting

A growing number of democracies are opening the doors — and the cameras — to restore trust in elections.

Around the world, respected democracies — from Asia to North America — already use cameras, public broadcasts, and digital transparency tools to show their citizens exactly how ballots are secured and counted.

Here is a factual look at three countries and jurisdictions already doing it — and the models they offer.

🇵🇭 Philippines — Livestreams Vote Canvassing Nationwide

The Philippines is one of the most transparent election systems globally. The Commission on Elections (COMELEC) regularly livestreams national vote canvassing and ballot tabulation on public platforms.

What they stream:

  • National canvassing

  • Transmission of Election Returns (ERs)

  • Aggregated tallies (not individual ballots)

🇺🇸 United States — Counties Live-Stream Ballot Counting in Real Time

Several major U.S. jurisdictions broadcast the counting process live, especially during mail-in and early-vote periods.

Examples include:

  • Maricopa County, Arizona — 24/7 livestream inside ballot tabulation centers

  • Los Angeles County, California — Streaming inside the central counting facility

  • Nevada, Georgia, Oregon, Washington — Public feeds during ballot verification

🇬🇧 United Kingdom — BBC Streams Live Footage From Count Centres

The UK does not operate official government livestreams, but the BBC, Sky News, and ITV broadcast live from vote-count centres across the country on election night. These feeds show ballot boxes arriving, ballots being sorted, and counting tables in action.

The Global Pattern Is Clear

Across continents, democracies are moving toward more visibility, not less.
Live-streaming the count:

  • Does not violate ballot secrecy

  • Does not expose how any individual voted

  • Does improve public trust, especially in close or disputed races

If The Bahamas adopts vote-streaming, we would be joining a proven, modern global standard — not inventing something new.
